Rob from New York State, with our first catfish caught in 2014, the water temperature is still a bit to low but we had 4 runs, one catfish came off, and this one caught weighed 73 lbs, it was Rob’s biggest fish and his first wels catfish. He now spends most of his time in Montana as a hunting guide, he hopes to return soon with his father.
wu zhou ZHAI from Beijing with his first two catfish weighing 61 lbs and 66 lbs. We only fished for 6 hours and found the runs hard to come by, with only 3 runs and one fish coming off. Lets hope the barometric pressure settles down over the next few days, this will improve matters. One of the catfish was covered in spawning marks, so it looks like they may have started spawning early this year on the Ebro river.
Darren and Paul catfishing
Darren and Paul on their first day’s fishing 130lbs, 42lbs and 96lbs. The weather is settled and the water is nicely coloured with the water temperature rising it’s all looking good for the rest of the week.
Darren 130 lb catfish
Paul 42 lbs
Darren 96 lb catfish
Paul 6 lbs
Darren and Paul had a difficult day, two good size fish came off, one run was messed up. Paul caught a 6lb catfish and 30 minutes before packing up Darren caught a 95lb catfish.
Darren 95 lbs
Paul 104 lbs
A good day today 104lbs,112lbs, 16lbs and a lovely fish to end the day weighing 157lbs all three hundred pound fish fought really well. The best thing about the 157lb catfish was that the Latvians had been in the swim all day, we came to the swim just as they left, within fifteen minutes we had this fish on
Darren 112 lbs
Paul 16 lbs
Paul’s new pb 157 lbs
Three fish today no big ones but good fun, the weather does not look good for tomorrow, with a falling barometer and rain is expected.
Darren 40 lbs
Paul 73 lbs
Darren 31 lbs
Day 5th and final day
Darren and Paul said “we will be happy if we catch one hundred pound catfish” they did this on their first day with a 130 lb catfish. They then changed their aspirations to can we catch 1000 lbs of catfish. Well on the last day with 1 hour to go they had caught 914 lbs of catfish, this 96 lb fish brought their total to 1010 lbs, so mission accomplished. Well done lads.
Darren 96 lbs
We knew it would be a difficult day with a falling barometric pressure. The first run produced this lovely catfish which only had one eye weighing 96 lbs.
Mark, James and Rebecca on their first 4 hour session. James caught his first catfish weighing 128 lbs. Mark played a fish to the boat, and whilst being gloved the hook fell out of it’s mouth and the fish was lost. it was estimated to be between 100 lbs and 110 lbs
Andy with his first wels catfish weighing 126 lbs. This was his first wels catfish capture.
Jay, Dave, Paul, Neil, Gary and James
Jay, Dave, Paul, Neil, Gary and James have had some success despite the river going up and down every day. This is their second trip with us, the size of the catfish caught is very good despite the low number of fish caught.
Paul with his new personal best weighing 102lbs
Jay with a 56 lb fish
Dave with his new personal best catfish weighing 144lbs
James with his first wels catfish weighing 119lbs
Neil with his first wels catfish weighing 122lbss
Gary with a 100 lb catfish yes I now it sounds like it’s been rounded up. I asked Natalie if the weight was correct she said yes the scales were zeroed allowing for three pounds for the weight of the weigh sling.
Neil with a 74 lb catfish, sorry I put the weight down as 78 lbs on Facebook
Neil with a 104 lb catfish
Paul with a 102 lb catfish this equaled his personal best he caught with us four days before.
Last catfish of the trip and the largest caught with no minutes left on the clock weighed 156 lbs a new personal best for Jay, which gave him a terrific fight. Natalie saw a catfish strike at a duck minutes before this run and was sure a run would occur in the following few minutes and of course she was right (as usual). So only ten wels catfish caught between this group of six. Of which 8 were over 100lbs, for a total weight of 1079 lbs, and all six with personal bests, you don’t get much better than that.
Shane with a 51 lb catfish the biggest fish in a poor two day period.
Terence with a 34 lb catfish
And finally Keith with an 8 lb catfish. What can you say, it was terrible the river was up and down all the time, the cats were spawning. What more could go wrong, We hope it’s better for you all next year. Thank you Ronan for your kind comments in your email, sent after your return home.
No Damian this year, it looks like the new guy Mike is going to take his place in future after thoroughly enjoy his first catfishing adventure. The group have now caught 43 catfish weighing over 100 lbs with us. This time they caught 23 wels catfish for a total weight of 1234lbs, although the individual fish weights were down it did not matter, as they really enjoyed their fishing.
What a lovely channel catfish 23 lb 5 ounces, the biggest we have heard of being caught on the Ebro, well done John.
Mike was not a fisherman until he caught this 94 lb catfish, well he is now!!!
What a struggle it was to get this fish in for John, it went into a snag and was tethered 12 feet down to a tree. I tried pulling the snag up with my boat but could hardly move it, a phone call to Natalie and she came to our rescue 90 minutes later with Natalie pulling the snag up we had the snag up near enough to the surface where Oz finally gloved the fish. We then untangled the line bringing the fish onto the boat, she weighed 124lbs. There were smiles all round knowing we had not left a fish to die tethered to a snag.
Oz 88 lbs his biggest of the trip
New personal best for Mike 127lbs
Andy 38 lbs
Jess, Chris and Scott
Jess, and Scott a have been fishing with us since 2008, they previously fished with our old friend Andy Shattock at Riba Roca, where they all caught their personal bests. They have all beaten these fish many times over with us, Chris joined the group this year catching two catfish that beat his 81 lb 2006 personal best with fish of 94lbs and 104 lbs this time. Jess caught a 124 lb catfish and Scott caught fish of 114 lbs, 61 lbs and 19 lbs.
Scott 61 lbs
Jess 124 lbs
Chris 94 lbs
Scott 19 lbs
Scott 114 lbs
Chris (in the middle) 104 lbs.
Lewis could not beat his 127lb personal best this time, this fish weighed 119lbs
Thomas 13 years old caught his first catfish with us weighing 37lbs
Ian’s first attempt at catfishing proved very fruitful, the day started with a 38 lb catfish in the morning session, with a big fish coming off the hook. The evening session started with two small catfish both under 15 lbs, followed by a 128 lb catfish which gave Ian a good scrap. Infact we thought the fish looked in better condition than Ian after the battle.
Edward with his first Wels Catfish weighing 106 lbs, caught at the end of a 4 hour session.
Daniel & Magda with a 31 lb catfish
John and Elliot
John and Elliot on their third trip with us, it started really well with 3 catfish caught on the first day weighing 122 lbs, 126 lbs and 159 lbs which is the largest caught with us so far this year. It slowed down after the first day, but at least there were no blank days. A total of twelve catfish were caught.
Russell and Thomas on their first catfishing trip. Thomas is holding the tail with his 96 lb wels catfish and on the right Russell with his 44 lb catfish.
Gordon, Chomik, Shaun and Winnie
Gordon, Chomik, Shaun and Winnie here for the third year, The fishing was slow with the catfish being lethargic due to the high water temperature. The low water conditions ruled out some of the swims and the weed cutting up river is starting to become problematic. Four 100 lb catfish were caught, all very similar weights of 103lbs, 104lbs, 107lbs and 108lbs. Seven smaller catfish were also caught during their stay.
Jim, James, Jamie, Adam, Daz and Moonboy
Jim, James, Jamie, Adam, Daz and Moonboy fished with us for 4 days catching 18 wels catfish and 5 channel catfish with a new record for us caught by Moonboy weighing 27 lbs 2 0zs. This is the second largest channel catfish caught with us, the previous biggest was 23 lbs 5 ozs caught by John jackson this Spring. The total weight of the catfish caught was 1305 lbs well done lads, fishing was hard with few good solid runs, the low water levels and the high water temperatures is making it very difficult add to this the unsettled weather we think the group did really well.
Gary, Rod and Ryan
Gary, Rod and Ryan had not been catfishing before in fact they had only done some fly fishing before fishing for a total of 17 hours over three days, they caught one catfish on the first day weighing 92 lbs, this fell to Gary’s rod. Not even one run on the second day, and on the final day Ryan caught his first catfish weighing 11 lbs which was covered in spawning marks, then right on the last knockings Ryan hooked and played with some help from Rod a 112 lb fish which managed to get into the fast current and took some effort to get into the boat.
Rob, Luke and Busters
This was Rob, Luke and Busters first trip with us catching catfish to 86 lbs over 2 days.
Jess, Scott, Arthur, Mick and Eric
Jess, Scott, Arthur, Mick and Eric on their second trip this year, with Mick, Scott and Eric all catching 100 lb plus catfish. We are looking forward to your next April visit lads.
Austyn our last client of the year, the fishing was hard with few runs, but he managed two nice catfish of 119 lbs and 132 lbs. it was nice fishing with Austyn over 4 days.
